The NDAA Adaptive Kayakingsvery first KAYAK-A-THON!
When: Saturday, August 15, 2026
10am-6pm, sign up for Paddle start times to follow at a later date!
Where: Waterbury Center State Park
Who: You!! Kayakers, friends, families, community and supporters of The NDAA Adaptive Kayaking program.
What: Our very first, hopefully soon to be annual,NDAA Adaptive Kayaking Kayak-A-Thon!
What’s a THON you ask?? Officially as per Wikipedia… “derived from marathon. It denotes a continuous, long-lasting, or large-scale event, particularly for charity (e.g., telethonwalkathon, or the notable Penn State Dance Marathon, THON).”
However.. our definition of THON? A block party style event with on water paddle time, food truck, raffle tickets, and good times all around. This is not a day to push yourself to the brink of exhaustion; nor is it an endurance challenge. The NDAA Kayak-a-Thon is an opportunity to be on the water with friends and family, while supporting and celebrating the program that allows adaptive athletes the freedom of independent kayaking.
Event Information:
1. It is a fundraising event; your efforts will help our mission of being able to continue providing outings on a “by donation” basis. We ask that THON participants commit to fundraising a minimum of $200 per kayak (single or tandem!). Support persons attending solely to support a participant do not need to meet any minimum fundraising requirements.
2. The first thing you need to do is register- this tells me that you are coming, and I can schedule you and make sure the equipment you need is ready and available. Each person who plans to attend needs to register. You can register directly at the link below. Select “I want to register and help fundraise”, and follow the prompts that pop up. Make sure to select paddle-participant for anyone planning on getting in the water, or non-paddle participant for dry-land only event participation.
Once you register, you will then be directed to set up a personal fundraising page. There is no link you need to click on, the setup screen will pop immediately after you complete registration. You then have the option to fundraise as a solo participant, or you can create a team and invite your friends and family to join in your fundraising. Feel free to also share your fundraising link on social media, via text/email, or directly in person. You may also opt to fundraise via other methods or donate without attending the Kayak-A-Thon using the link below. Select “I want to donate” to submit a donation directly to The NDAA Adaptive Kayaking Program.

**Please note, when checking out, Zeffy defaults to a voluntary 17% contribution (“tip”) to support their platform. Declining to do so does not affect or reduce your donation made to NDAA. You can change the default Zeffy contribution amount to $0 by selecting “other” and typing in 0.
Fundraising tips
To meet the fundraising minimum goal, it would only take 20 people donating $10 each. Co-workers, family and friends would all be likely to part with $10 to support your participation in the event.  Alternatively, you can approach a few people for more money. It would only take 10 people to each sponsor you for $20. Still nervous? Give me a call for advice, tips, and encouragement! Or, join up with a team so you can share the fundraising responsibilities. I am here to help!
I can’t wait for the start of another wonderful Adaptive Kayaking Season, and looking forward to our very first Kayak-a-Thon together. Hope to see you there!
Happy Paddling!
