Sled Cats

The Vermont Sled Cats were founded in April 2005. We hold weekly sled hockey practices at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, VT. At our peak, we had 25 players ranging in ages from 5 years old to 65 years old. We were regular competitors in the Northeast Sled Hockey League. The Sled Cats have withdrawn from the league for the 2018-2019 season, choosing instead to play an independent schedule.

Sled hockey is played like 5-on-5 ice hockey. Players sit in sleds raised just off the surface of the ice, and propel themselves by using hockey sticks with a regular blade on one end and a small ice pick on the other.

Some players with significant mobility or dexterity limitations choose to play hockey with a pusher. The pusher propels the sled, while the player focuses on playing the puck.
